About Aah Games

Aah Games is a newly formed independant game development company. It aims to capture a loyal fan base through releasing cheap, small, polished games at regular intervals that are known for compulsive playing and for a recognisable presentation style. The company aims to pursue novel funding and advertising methods, as well as fostering close relationships with fans. And I want a tower from which I control all corpses.

Future Plans

I intend to make games in whatever form appears to make the most business sense. XBox, PC, iPhone, Flash, PSN, WiiWare or whatever - I am platform agnostic. If a platform can draw a sprite then I'm in business. What I do know is that many people and companies are capable of making great games, but not many of them are capable of making a long lasting company. I don't claim to have all the answers but for now it is good enough to say that I intend not to put all my eggs in one expensive basket. I want to make one game approximately every two months so I have continuous and relatively recent data with which to evaluate the company's position.

About Robert Swan

I've worked as a games programmer over the past 12 years on a variety of platforms, with the last five projects as lead programmer. It seems in my early years I was very fortunate, as I had few canned (canceled) projects. I like to think through hard work and diligence I'm catching up with the average.

I've also been interviewed by Edge Magazine twice in relation to my Net Yaroze programming.

Favourite Games / Inspirations

Super Metroid (SNES) is probably the single biggest inspiration. It's blend of exploration, refined controls and atmosphere. Conveniently it is also a genre ripe for small Indie games. Oh look, Shadow Complex just went and done it.

Why the name "Aah Games"?

There was nothing special about "Aah Games" as a company name - it had to fit a number of criteria:
  • It had to be at the start of the alphabet
  • It had to have a 3 letter form
  • It had to come with no unwanted meaning
  • It could be added to the front of every game title without ruining it
They mean all my software appears close to the top of lists, and grouped together. "Sounding good" wasn't a criteria. It's a bit like naming a baby, as no baby looks like a "Norman" or "Henry" at birth, but they grow into the names until you can't imagine them as anything else. At least, that's the idea. Think about the stupid "PlayStation", "XBox" and "Wii" names. "Aah" can occasionally mean "action adventure horror" so there goes the family friendly angle.
